I Used Bolt, Lovable, and v0. They All Gave Me the Same Site

I tested Bolt. Then Lovable. Then v0.dev.

Three different platforms, three different prompts, three different goals.
And somehow, I got the exact same website.

Clean headline.
Two-column layout.
CTA button that says “Get Started.”
Feature grid.
White background. Rounded corners. The same damn gradient.

It all looked… fine.
But also like every other startup on the internet.

Welcome to the AI design era. Fast, tidy, and deeply forgettable.

These Tools Are Fast. But They’re Not Smart.

Let’s be clear. I actually like these tools.
They’re fast.
They scaffold decently.
They’re good at hierarchy and layout.
Perfect for founders who need a starting point or designers who want to skip boilerplate UI.

But the second you want something with personality, energy, or taste, you hit a wall.

The site looks like something.
But it doesn’t feel like anything.

Prompt In, SaaS Clone Out

Here’s what I tried:

  • Bolt: Prompted for an edgy Web3 security dashboard. Got something that looked like a Notion template with orange tags.
  • Lovable: Prompted for a bold landing page for a storytelling AI app. Got linear-style blocks and the same gradient I’ve seen a hundred times.
  • v0.dev: Asked for a friendly job portal aimed at Gen Z creators. Got grey cards with icons and a heading that read “Empower Your Journey.”

Same skeleton. Different makeup. No soul. It’s not a tool problem. It’s a vibe problem.

We’re Designing from Prompts. Not from Vision.

All of these platforms are built on one assumption:
If we give you good layout and spacing, you’ll figure out the rest.

But here’s the truth.
Design is not just about layout.
It’s about energy, tone, emotion, and story.

You can’t prompt “make it feel premium but raw, clean but weird, confident but approachable” and expect a machine to nail it. Not yet. Maybe never.

The Real Danger Is Design Monoculture

We’re heading into a world where thousands of sites are going to look “nice” but feel identical.
Same paddings. Same icons. Same soft curves and gradient fades.

Founders won’t notice at first.
Users will.
And they’ll bounce. Because it all blurs together.

What’s the difference between a productivity tool and a portfolio builder if they look the same and sound the same?

AI Tools Are Assistants. Not Directors.

Here’s how I use them now:

  • To generate skeletons I can break
  • To skip repetitive layout patterns
  • To speed up client prototypes
  • To help early-stage founders visualize ideas quickly

But I never rely on them for brand, vibe, or message.
Because those things are still too human to be automated.
And they should be.

Final Thought

Bolt, Lovable, and v0 are great for getting something out the door.
But they won’t help you stand out.
They’re built for structure, not story. Layout, not language. Output, not opinion.

The websites they generate aren’t wrong.
They’re just beige.

And the web already has too much beige.

Hey, I’m Vishal, a product designer, vibe coder, and someone who’s been deep in the trenches with tools like Webflow and Framer for years. I run OhhMyAds, a small studio where we help brands go from messy ideas to clean, high-performing websites that actually do the job.

Most of what I write here comes straight from real client work, late-night rebuilds, and way too many “quick fixes” that turned into full-blown redesigns. If you’re into design that looks good but also makes sense, stick around.
